Our Commitment is Quality Care In Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery

Dr. Mark A. Piper and his partners at MSI have one goal - to offer their patients a high standard of care in their specialty practice of oral and maxillo-facial surgery.

Toward this goal, each of the physicians has earned doctorate degrees in medicine and dentistry and has had residency training in both general and oral and maxillo-facial surgery. This specialized combination of skill, coupled with extensive on-going education and research, enables the doctors at MSI to address the many unique and complex medical problems involving the face and jaw.

The offices and surgery center are equipped and staffed to handle many procedures within our own complex. When hospitalization is required, our doctors staff nearby facilities which offer comprehensive surgical and postoperative care.

Perhaps most importantly, the members of our team have been carefully chosen for their commitment to the medical, personal, and financial needs of each of our patients. Through this coordinated team effort MSI seeks to relieve pain and suffering, correct deformities, and help patients feel better about themselves.

Dr. Mark A. Piper and his partners are gratified to have the opportunity to attend those who need their expertise and service. Serving their patients well is their highest concern.

The Specialty Areas

MSI offers comprehensive services in the diagnosis and reconstruction of oral and maxillo-facial abnormalities. We generally do not deliver primary medical or dental care, but serve as consulting physicians in our areas of specialty.

Specialty areas of expertise for MSI include:

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders - Diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of TMJ disorders, including Doppler auscultation, tomography, magnetic resonance, microscopic TMJ reconstruction, and arthroscopic surgery. Diagnosis and treatment of facial pain syndromes, such as correction of nerve, artery and muscle disorders which cause facial pain. Diagnosis and treatment of bone degeneration of the TMJ.

Facial Deformities - Orthognathic surgery, correction of facial skeletal defects from birth or accident, cleft palate repair and jaw and chin reconstruction. Computer photo imaging for reconstruction.

Dental Implants - Replacement of missing tooth structures using osseointegrated implant systems.

All MSI physicians have completed advanced surgical training for the reconstruction of maxillary and mandibular jaw structures, which includes bone reconstruction and repair.

Dentoalveolar Surgery - Emergency and planned extractions, wisdom teeth, oral infections, jaw cysts and lesions.

Facial Trauma and Reconstruction - Injuries to eye sockets (orbits), nose, sinuses, cheekbones (zygoma), upper jaw (maxilla), and lower jaw (mandible), as well as surrounding soft tissue.

Cosmetic Surgery - Procedures involving the face, cheeks, chin and nose.

Tumors of the Oral and Maxillo-Facial Region - Cancers involving surface tissues of the mouth and upper throat, tumors in salivary gland tissues or in neck structures, and other lesions in the mouth, throat and neck areas. Tumors involving the bone of the maxilla and mandible, necessitating surgical treatment and reconstruction.

The Facilities

MSI's office environment is designed to offer convenience, comfort and quality service to our patients. Most procedures can be carried out in four treatment rooms and two fully equipped surgical suites, all overlooking tropical St. Petersburg, Florida. Our offices combine a warm and pleasant environment with state-of-the-art technology, including radiology facilities featuring tomography, computer imaging equipment, two on-site laboratories, two x-ray consultation rooms, an audio-visual patient education room, sterilization room area and business office and conference room.

When more comprehensive care and diagnosis is required, MSI provides services through six excellent hospitals and medical centers, all located within a seven-mile radius of the Institute. At these facilities, MSI physicians and patients have access to complete surgical support, as well as emergency care, CAT and MRI diagnostic imaging, rehabilitative management and other services beyond the scope of our office facilities.

MSI medical personnel include a certified physician's assistant and case coordinators for TMJ, orthognathic and implant procedures. In addition, MSI has trained financial staff to assist in all phases of insurance investigation and follow-up.
